Selling snow in Alaska sounds pretty hopeless - there is already plenty of snow there that's free. Can you make people pay you for more snow? Absolutely. All you need is some marketing creativity.

Marketing Twist #1: Make Your Snow Unique

Snow with unique properties can become a desirable product. What people already have is a boring, useless, plain old snow that nobody wants. You are not selling the common snow. What you are selling is a unique snow.

  • Snow That Doesn't Melt

Snow that doesn’t melt can be a great new building material! No more wasted efforts when building the igloos that will eventually melt. With the new patented snow, the igloos will survive the summer and will still be there by next winter.

  • Snow With Health Benefits

Instead of exposing yourself to the dirty polluted snow, surround yourself with a pure clean snow that is enriched with anti-oxidants. No dangerous chemicals and toxins – this snow is actually good for you!

  • Colored Snow

Start selling the colored snow, and the kids will be begging their parents to get them some. A colorful snowman is much more fun to make than a boring white one. Colored snow can become the kids’ craze of the year!

Marketing Twist #2:
Transform Snow Into Something Else

A snow in a different form can become a very attractive product.

  • Purified Bottled Water

Melt the snow and you get water. Run this water through the purification system, bottle it and you get a marketable product. Selling bottled water is surely easier than selling snow!

  • Ice Rink

Make an ice rink by melting the snow in a large area and then freezing the water into ice. Charge admission and skate rental fees to make money from your ice rink.

  • Snow Hill

Build a large snow hill out of snow. Advertise it as a “Winter Carnival” and charge admission and sled rental fees.

Marketing Twist #3:
Cash In On Snow-Related Services

Instead of paying you directly for the snow, people will be paying you for services that are tied directly to the snow.

  • Skiing instruction

People can learn how to ski in your snow! Skiing lessons are a big business. You can rent people the skis and charge them for skiing lessons.

  • Snowman Building Contest

Hold a snowman building contest with prizes. Charge an admission fee and provide the snow and supplies for decorating the snowman.

  • Snow sculpture workshop

Teach people how to create sculptures from snow. Aspiring artists will pay you to learn how to turn snow into beautiful works of art.

Did I get your brain churning? How many other ways of selling snow can you think of? Apply this concept to your own business. Don't ever dismiss what seems impossible. You are just one fresh marketing angle away from your big break.
